How does it work?
Death assumption
Your privacy and dignity matter. We never guess – we verify carefully before any message is delivered.
You can choose how the system determines that you’ve passed away. There are two main options, and you decide how to use them:
Check-ins only, trusted contacts only, either/or (whichever happens first) or both required (extra security).
Oh, and you can always change your preferences. You are 100% in control.
Periodic Check-ins
You’ll receive friendly reminders according to your chosen schedule (for example, every two weeks or once a month).
Each email includes a confirmation link: click it, and the timer resets.
If you miss a check-in, we’ll send a reminder based on your preferences. The number of reminders can range from 1 to 10, with an interval between 6 and 24 hours.
Trusted Contacts
You can mark one or more of your contacts as trusted. Each trusted contact gets a private link they can use to report your passing. Note: we’ll leave it up to you to share the link.
They don’t see your account, contacts, or messages – only that single purpose: to let us know you’ve passed away.
You decide how many confirmations are needed.
For example, if you choose 3 trusted contacts, all three must confirm before we take action.
Next step: message delivery
When Your Last Letter determines that you have passed away, it’s time for the messages to be delivered. See how we do that.
